Ownership & Influence:
Shaping Outcomes You Don’t Control

June 2, 2027, Allianz Arena, Munich, Germany

Join us in Munich for an immersive, experiential workshop exploring one of Global Mobility’s central challenges: how to shape outcomes you are accountable for, even when you do not own the decision. Through a live two-run decision simulation, you will experience what changes when Global Mobility enters late — and what becomes possible when it is involved from the start.

About

Ownership & Influence:

Shaping Outcomes You Don’t Control

Global Mobility is often accountable for outcomes shaped by decisions it does not own. Finance, HR, business leaders, Legal, Procurement and Global Mobility may all enter the same decision with different priorities, constraints and measures of success. This highly interactive workshop puts that reality into practice. In a two-run decision simulation, participants first tackle a consequential mobility decision with Global Mobility entering late, after key parameters have already been set. Then we run the same challenge again, but this time Global Mobility is involved from the beginning.

What changes when Mobility gets into the room earlier? The outcome? Cost? Risk? Speed? And where should Global Mobility genuinely own the decision versus influence it without ownership? You will leave with a clearer view of where Global Mobility needs ownership, where it needs influence, and where accountability and authority may currently be misaligned in your organization.

The workshop will examine ownership, decision-making, competing stakeholder priorities, and the relationship between accountability and authority, with a particular focus on how Global Mobility can become involved earlier in consequential business decisions.

Participants will work individually and in teams to challenge current approaches, experience different decision-making dynamics, and translate the insights into practical actions for their own organizations. The full-day event at Allianz Arena combines focused learning, collaboration, and meaningful networking in a small-group environment designed for active participation.

What Participants of Previous Workshops Say

Taking time out of a busy schedule is so important and the Workshop was the right place to set personal goals for this year. My favourite activity was using PlaymobilPro and I strongly recommend trying this method if you haven’t done yet. Thank you all for this wonderful event. I am very much looking forward to the next Workshop.

What I loved about the workshop in London was learning how the HR Business Partner role can truly shift from operational to strategic. One key takeaway was how important it is to use metrics, communicate clearly, and actively share your wins. HRBPs need to advocate for themselves to gain visibility within the organization. Strategic alignment with business goals — especially around continuous improvement, competitiveness, and revenue growth — is essential for making a real impact.

The session in New York was simple yet spot-on, addressing many of the real questions professionals face in this space. I’m especially glad I didn’t miss it, as you focused on one of the most critical aspects—ROI in Global Mobility.

The way you broke down complex ideas into relatable examples made it easy to understand how to communicate the value of strategic investments to leadership. Your practical approach to demonstrating meaningful returns was both refreshing and actionable.

Looking forward to more such engaging sessions and the opportunity to connect again!

The workshop in Herzogenaurach was a great experience! The atmosphere with Ben and Stefan leading the workshop was inspiring and collaborative, with a perfect balance of focus and creativity. I truly appreciated the interactive sessions, the academic input, and the opportunity to connect with like-minded Global Mobility professionals. The activities helped me think differently about myself as a GM professional and set clear, actionable goals to develop next stepstones of my career. It was time well spent, and I left feeling energized and equipped with new strategies to drive impact in the professional world. And most of all, it was great fun! Thank you to Mastering GM and People Mobility Alliance for this opportunity.

About this Unique Collaboration

MasteringGM® and People Mobility Alliance in 2027

What started as a collaboration around a shared ambition a few years back has grown into an established partnership. In 2027, MasteringGM® and People Mobility Alliance are once again joining forces for a series of highly interactive workshops designed specifically for senior in-house Global Mobility and HR professionals.
Across the year, the program explores one overarching challenge: how Global Mobility can move from late involvement to early influence. Each workshop approaches this from a different perspective, combining evidence and expertise with experiential learning, practical tools, and genuine peer exchange.

On June 2, we return to the Allianz Arena in Munich for Ownership & Influence: Shaping Outcomes You Don’t Control. The workshop tackles a familiar Global Mobility reality: being accountable for outcomes that are often shaped by decisions made elsewhere in the organization. Together, MasteringGM® and People Mobility Alliance will create a highly interactive day exploring ownership, influence, competing stakeholder priorities, and what changes when Global Mobility becomes involved earlier. Participants will work through real organizational dynamics, challenge existing assumptions, learn from peers, and translate the day’s insights into practical actions for their own organizations.

The Workshop's Strategic Intersections

Global Mobility rarely owns every decision that shapes mobility outcomes. Throughout the workshop, participants will examine where ownership should sit, where GM needs greater influence, and where accountability and authority may currently be misaligned. By making these boundaries visible, participants can identify where clearer roles and earlier involvement would improve decision-making.

Important mobility decisions bring together stakeholders with genuinely different objectives. Finance may prioritize cost, Legal risk, HR talent outcomes, and the business speed and delivery. Participants will explore how these competing priorities shape decisions, where tensions emerge, and how Global Mobility can work across organizational boundaries to create stronger alignment.

Influence does not depend on formal ownership. The workshop explores how Global Mobility can contribute earlier, bring a distinctive perspective to cross-functional decisions, and shape outcomes beyond its direct authority. Participants will translate these insights into their own organizational context and identify practical opportunities to strengthen GM’s strategic influence.

A few words from co-organizer Stefan Remhof

Influence Without Ownership

Global Mobility operates at the intersection of many different functions, priorities, and interests. We may be accountable for the success of an assignment or mobility program, but many of the decisions that determine that success are made elsewhere. Understanding how to influence those decisions is therefore critical. For me, this starts with recognizing that different stakeholders legitimately see the same decision differently. Finance, HR, Legal, Procurement, the business, and Global Mobility each bring their own objectives and constraints. Strategic influence is not about overriding those perspectives, but understanding them and finding ways to shape better outcomes together.

That is also why timing matters. If Global Mobility only enters once the key parameters have been set, our ability to contribute is inevitably limited. Getting involved earlier allows us to bring our expertise into the decision itself, rather than simply being asked to execute it afterwards.
This workshop is about experiencing those dynamics, reflecting on where ownership and influence really sit, and identifying how Global Mobility can become a more effective contributor to the decisions that matter.

This unforgettable experience provides a fitting end to a day dedicated to elevating the strategic impact of Global Mobility.

Whether you’re brainstorming strategies or networking with peers, the Allianz Arena’s world-class facilities, stunning views, and vibrant energy create a unique atmosphere for professional development and we are thrilled to welcome you to this fantastic venue soon.

A few words from co-organizer Benjamin Bader

Getting in the Room Earlier

One of the central arguments in my book, From Operational to Strategic Global Mobility, is that becoming strategic is not about doing more but about understanding where Global Mobility can genuinely shape organizational outcomes — and getting involved early enough to do so. Too often, Mobility enters the conversation after the important decisions have already been made. The destination, budget, timing, talent decision or business objective may already be fixed. We are then asked to execute well and held accountable for outcomes that were partly determined before we ever entered the room.

However, the answer is not for Global Mobility to own everything. Strategic functions understand what they should own, what others should own, and where they need influence without formal authority. That requires understanding different stakeholder priorities, building credibility, and knowing when and how to enter consequential business decisions.
That is exactly what we want to explore in Munich. The workshop takes some of the ideas at the heart of the book and makes them tangible: experiencing different decision dynamics, challenging assumptions about ownership and accountability, and exploring what actually changes when Global Mobility gets involved earlier.

For me, that is the real shift from operational to strategic Global Mobility: not simply asking for a seat at the table, but knowing which tables matter, when you need to be there, and what you contribute once you are.

Anything else you need to know...

Got questions? We’ve got answers! Below, you’ll find everything you need to know about the workshop. From what to expect to how to prepare, we’ve covered all the details to ensure you’re fully informed and ready to make the most of this experience. If you don’t see your question here, feel free to reach out—we’re here to help!

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is designed for senior in-house Global Mobility and HR professionals who want to strengthen their influence across the organization. Whether you lead a mobility function, manage a program, or work closely with business and HR stakeholders, you will benefit from exploring how to shape decisions, navigate competing priorities, and get Global Mobility involved earlier.

What will I get out of the workshop?

You will gain a clearer understanding of what Global Mobility should own, where it needs influence, and where accountability and authority may currently be misaligned. You will leave with practical insights you can apply to your own organization to strengthen stakeholder relationships, improve decision-making, and involve GM earlier.

What makes this workshop different?

This is not a conference or a day of presentations. The workshop combines expert input, peer discussion, structured exercises, and an immersive decision simulation. With a deliberately small group of senior in-house professionals, you will actively work through challenges, test ideas, and learn from the experiences of others in the room.

How do I know if this workshop is right for me?

If you have ever felt that Global Mobility was brought into an important decision too late, held accountable for something it did not fully control, or struggled to influence stakeholders with different priorities, this workshop is for you. It is particularly relevant if you want GM to contribute earlier and more strategically to organizational decisions.

Is this workshop relevant if I’m not in a senior GM role?

Yes. While the workshop is aimed at experienced Global Mobility and HR professionals, you do not need to lead the function. If your role requires you to work across organizational boundaries, influence stakeholders, contribute to mobility decisions, or help shape how GM operates, the topics and exercises will be directly relevant.

What will I leave with?

You will leave with a clearer map of what Global Mobility should own, where it needs influence, and where accountability and authority need better alignment. More importantly, you will translate the workshop insights into practical priorities and actions that you can take back into your own organization.

What do I need to prepare?

Very little. We will provide everything you need for the workshop. We simply ask you to arrive ready to participate, share experiences, challenge assumptions, and think about how ownership and influence currently work within your own organization.

How does this workshop benefit my organization?

The workshop helps participants identify where earlier Global Mobility involvement can improve decisions and where clearer ownership can reduce friction and ambiguity. The result is a GM function better equipped to work across Finance, HR, Legal, Procurement, the business, and other stakeholders to shape better organizational outcomes.

What if I’m not satisfied with the workshop?

We’re confident in the value of our workshop. If you feel it’s not meeting your expectations, tell us so during the first half of the workshop and we offer you a no-questions-asked refund guarantee.

Is this workshop suitable for HR professionals outside GM?

Absolutely. Many of the challenges explored during the day extend well beyond Global Mobility: cross-functional ownership, competing stakeholder priorities, accountability without authority, and influencing decisions you do not control. HR professionals who work closely with mobility, talent, international workforce, or business stakeholders will find the workshop particularly relevant.

How is this different from other professional development programs?

Rather than teaching a generic model of influence or leadership, we apply these questions directly to the realities of Global Mobility. Participants work with realistic organizational tensions and decisions, learn alongside experienced peers, and actively experience how different structures and stakeholder positions affect outcomes.

What is this workshop not about?

This is not a technical mobility training course, a vendor showcase, or a series of sales presentations. It is also not about arguing that Global Mobility should own every decision. The focus is on understanding where GM genuinely adds value, where ownership belongs elsewhere, and how Mobility can influence outcomes without necessarily controlling them.

What is the cost of the workshop?

The workshop is priced at €1199 for early bird registration (valid until March 1, 2027) and €1599 for the full rate, both plus VAT if applicable. If you prefer to pay in Pound Sterling and receive a UK invoice, please reach out to us. Workshop fee includes all workshop materials, meals, and drinks during the sessions, VIP parking at Allianz Arena, as well as a the behind-the-scenes Stadium Tour (depending on availability and controlled by FC Bayern München). Please note that accommodation is not included.

Does the workshop bridge academia and practice?

Yes. The workshop combines evidence-based thinking with the realities experienced by Global Mobility professionals every day. As experienced academics, educators, and practitioners, we translate research and established concepts into interactive exercises, discussion, and practical application rather than treating theory and practice as separate worlds.
